end of the year

hey guys
so we finished our csi unit and it was a lot of fun finding clues to open the box at the very end. we beat the other classes record and cracked the code in 10 minutes! we got candy and discovered who the suspects were, Jia and Zachary. after we finished that we designed and built  makeshift oven to roast a marsh mellow without using fire or electricity. most of us used magnified glasses to focus the sun and burn the marsh mellow. we used the roasted marsh mellows after to make s'mores. They were very good and fun to make. So that's what we have done so far in science for the end of the year. hopefully more fun to come!

csi

hey guys. we have started a new unit in class, csi! it started when we came into the class and there was a "crime scene" all over Mrs Bumsteads desk. we collected evidence and filled out a suspect page with our own finger prints by putting pencil lead on our fingers and pressing the on tape. then putting the tape on the paper is showed our finger prints. so far its been fun, so it should get better as the unit continues.

now we are doing a heat unit and are looking at 7 lessons and are working through on our own. we are learning about converting temperatures and different particles in cold and heat. we are doing a end project for the unit called the menu choise project to explain heat and what you learned and how heat effects humans. so thats a rundown on what we are doing in science. bye!

hey guys this is my animal project. we made bird housesin science class and i made one for hummingbirds so here is the written copy of my work.:)

humming birds:

What is the organisms common name and scientific name?
common name: ruby throated hummingbird scientific name: Archilochus colubris

What does the organism look like? Is there a difference between male, female and  juvenile?
Ruby-throated hummingbirds are bright emerald or golden-green on the back and head, with gray-white belly. They also have a long, straight, thin bill. The male ruby-throated hummingbird has red throat, but the female does not.

,    What is the average height and size of an adult?
weight: 0.07 to 0.21oz (2 to 6 g) size: 3 to 4 in (7 to 9 cm)
Adult females are 15-20% larger than adult males
Illustration: Hummingbird compared with tea cup
What type of habitat does the organism need?
Eastern North America. in deciduous and pine forests. nest along forest edges, in orchards, and in gardens where flowering plants are plentiful

What role does this organism play in food chains in the ecosystem? (Include predator &
prey, or food preference for herbivores as applicable)
are important pollinators, especially of deep-throated flowers.
While ecologically the role of hummingbirds as pollinators and insect controls is of great importance

Describe behaviours of your organism?mating, song or physical adaptations

Hummingbirds communicate with one another by making visual displays. Males sometimes raise the feathers bordering the gorget and toss their heads from side to side, while uttering shrill sounds. Females and young are more likely to do perched displays in which they spread their tail feathers to show the white tips. Male and female hummingbirds establish separate territories--she to build a nest and feed her young, he just to protect a reliable food source. The male takes no interest in nests or the care and feeding of babies. When females enter his territory, he does aerial displays to keep them away hummingbirds compete for nectar and insects. They guard their territories fiercely, perching high near flowering bushes or feeders

Describe the nesting behaviour of the organism.
Only female hummingbirds build nests.the perfect spot is typically on a downward slanting branch of a big tree or shrub, about 3 to 33 feet above the ground. they lay their eggs in the nest and raise their young. apparently two is the optimal number of chicks the female can care for.Chicks are in the nest for almost three weeks. When the chicks finally leave the nest, they are completely grown and are able to take care of themselves.

Show a map of where your organism can be located or migrate to?
they migrate to mexico during the warmer seasonsMap: Hummingbird range
